Some Area codes now required when dialling local numbers

Posted 8 years ago

As from 1st October 2014, dialling codes must now be included when calling local numbers from within areas in five UK regions.

Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, made a decision to change to whole number dialling in five UK regions to provide additional spare number ranges:-

  • Aberdeen (01224).
  • Bradford (01274).
  • Brighton (01273).
  • Middlesbrough (01642).
  • Milton Keynes (01908).

If you use a landline in any of the above areas, it is now necessary to dial area codes and phone numbers in full, “in the same way that such calls are currently made from a mobile phone. Dialling a local call with the area code will not affect the price of the call”, according to Ofcom’s statement.
